Restaurants Preference is an independent blog about the drinks that sit at the center of eating out and eating well: coffee, tea, the cafés that serve them, and the wine, beer and alcohol-free drinks that go with food. Our aim is simple. We want you to order with confidence, brew a better cup at home, and understand why one drink suits a meal better than another.
What we cover
Our Coffee section explains beans, roasts, brewing methods and the drinks on a café menu. Tea covers the main types of tea, how to brew them and the traditions around them. Café Culture looks at how cafés work, from ordering and etiquette to the history of coffeehouses around the world. Drinks & Pairing is about matching wine, beer, sake and alcohol-free drinks with food.
We also run a Lifestyle section on daily habits such as caffeine, focus and morning routines, and a Leisure & Games section on pastimes that go naturally with a drink, from chess in a café to a card night at home.
How we choose topics
We start with the questions people actually ask at the counter or the table. What is the difference between a latte and a cappuccino? Why does my green tea taste bitter? What should I order with a table of different dishes? Each article tries to answer its main question near the top, then gives practical steps you can use the next time you order or brew.
How we check facts
Every figure, rule, temperature or date in our articles comes from a source we have read, usually a government agency, public-health or food safety body, university, cultural heritage organization or established reference work. We link to the key sources so you can check them yourself. When sources disagree, we say so. When we cannot verify something, we leave it out.
We do not invent statistics, studies, quotes, experts or reviews. We do not name or rate individual cafés, restaurants or brands; we write about types of places and drinks instead, because menus and owners change. We also avoid quoting prices, which vary too much by place and time to be useful.
Contributed articles
Some articles on Restaurants Preference are contributed by other writers. We review every contribution for usefulness and accuracy before it is published. Our Disclosure page explains how contributed content is handled, and our Contact page tells you how to reach us with questions or corrections.
